Getting a Group to Petco Park or a Concert: One Sprinter vs. Four Ubers

Getting a Group to Petco Park or a Concert: One Sprinter vs. Four Ubers

Every group outing in San Diego hits the same wall: the event is booked, everyone's excited, and then someone asks, "So... how are we all getting there?" For a group of 8–14 headed to Petco Park, a concert, or a night out in the Gaslamp, the default answer — split into rideshares — is the worst-value option on the table.

The real cost of four Ubers on event night

Surge pricing is at its worst exactly when events start and end. A normally-$20 ride to Petco Park quotes $35–50 per car when the Padres play, and the post-game exodus is worse. Four cars × surge × both directions adds up fast:

  • Money: 4 rides × $40 average × 2 directions ≈ $320 — before tips, before anyone opens the app for the "priority" option to escape the post-game queue.
  • Time: your group arrives in four waves over 40 minutes. Leaving is worse — rideshare pickup zones after a game are a 20–30 minute wait, standing in a crowd.
  • The group experience: the whole point of going together... is being together. Four separate cars means the party starts only after everyone finally regroups.

One Sprinter, one pickup, everyone together

Our Mercedes Sprinter party bus takes up to 14 passengers at $180/hr with a 4-hour minimum. Do the math for a game night: pickup at 5:30, drop at the stadium gate, pickup after the final out, home by 11 — roughly $720 for the evening, or about $51 per person for a group of 14. Comparable to surge-priced rideshares, except:

  • The ride is part of the night. LED party lighting, premium sound with Bluetooth, TV, and a bar with ice. BYOB welcome for guests 21+ — we keep it cold.
  • Door-to-gate drop-off. No parking hunt, no $40 stadium lot, no post-game garage gridlock.
  • One driver who knows the plan. Multi-stop pickups, a mid-evening venue change, a late-night food run — it's all one itinerary, handled.
  • Everyone leaves together. Your driver is staged and waiting when the show ends. No pickup-zone chaos.

Beyond game night

The same Sprinter runs Temecula wine tours (multi-winery routing with wait time at each stop), bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, corporate team nights, and wedding party shuttles. For weddings we often pair it with our Mercedes-Maybach — the couple rides first class, the wedding party parties.

Booking tips for event dates

The Sprinter is one vehicle in high demand. For Padres home games and concert nights, book at least a week out; for Saturday wine tours and wedding season dates (May–October), two to four weeks is safer. Tell us your group size and the event — we'll suggest the timing that beats the traffic.
